Tens Of Thousands Evacuate As California Wildfires Consume Homes

Wildfires in both Los Angeles County and Northern California’s wine country continued to burn Friday morning, with tens of thousands of people under evacuation orders, many schools closed and more than 50 houses or other buildings destroyed.

Here’s the latest:

The Tick Fire in northern Los Angeles County forced the evacuation of around 40,000 people and led to the closure of all Los Angeles Unified District schools in the sprawling San Fernando Valley.

The brush fire broke out Thursday afternoon, and by night had spread to nearly 4,000 acres and destroyed at least six homes, county fire officials said.

In Northern California, the Kincade Fire in a rural part of northern Sonoma County led to evacuation orders for around 2,000 people and by Thursday evening had destroyed 49 homes or other buildings.

The Kincade Fire started Wednesday night, and has grown to at least 16,000 acres, officials said.
