Blaze Reduces Historic Pennsylvania Manor Resort To Rubble

A fire at the 117-year-old Pocono Manor Resort was finally doused late Saturday, but despite the efforts of between 15 to 20 different fire departments, it’s doesn’t appear much of the structure — once known as the“beautiful majestic lady" — can be salvaged.

“At this point, it’s pretty much one big pile of rubble,” a Monroe County dispatch supervisor said.

Firefighters suffered some minor injuries while fighting the flames at the Pocono Township resort, but no one was seriously injured, according to the supervisor. They spent much of Saturday dousing parts of the ruins that threatened to catch fire again.

Strong winds leftover from severe thunderstorms Thursday night helped fuel the fire as it ravaged the 240-room resort, eventually bringing down the building’s well-known clock tower.
