One person was killed and 43 others injured in crashes on Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania that were attributed to snow squalls that created whiteouts and made the highway slick.
Tractor-trailer trucks stacked up like an accordion in the main accident that occurred shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday in the westbound lanes east of the Mile Run interchange in western Union County.
Other crashes resulted in I-80 being blocked in both directions for hours. The eastbound lanes reopened about 7 p.m. while the westbound lanes remained closed.
Union County Coroner Dominick Adamo said Wednesday evening a person died at the scene and still was trapped in the wreckage.
