Weeks after a massive 75-car pile up on Interstate 64 westbound, Virginia State Police investigators believe the initial cause of the pileup was one car and a patch of black ice.
The crash happened on Dec. 22 around 7:51 a.m. at the Queens Creek Bridge in Upper York County and shut down the interstate for over seven hours, according to Daily Press archives.
Fifty-one people were injured. The bridge is about halfway between Camp Peary and the Humelsine Parkway.
State police have revised the number of vehicles involved in the main crash higher and higher, from around 30 at first, to 69 vehicles and today to 75 vehicles.
