Several homes were destroyed or damaged by a grass fire Wednesday that was burning near Oroville.
The fire ignited around 11:50 a.m. along Nelson Avenue, Cal Fire said. It charred an estimated 95 acres and was 100% contained by 7 p.m., according to Cal Fire.
"Red Flag Warning conditions, including high winds and very low relative humidity combined to fuel this fast-burning fire," Cal Fire said in an incident report. "The fire burned into the neighborhood of Mountain Vista Drive, destroying three homes and damaging two others."
Evacuations were ordered when the fire was first reported. The blaze threatened nearby structures. Some orders were reduced to a warning by 2:15 p.m., according to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.
By 6 p.m., all orders and warnings were lifted. The sheriff’s office said all residents are allowed to return to their homes.
