Saturday afternoon’s tour bus crash on the New York State Thruway prompted a regional emergency response from Central New York hospitals, medical officials said Sunday.
In all, 57 persons were injured and required medical care. No fatalities have been reported.
Shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, a JTR Transportation tour bus bound for Niagara Falls from the Hudson Valley city of Poughkeepsie ran off of the westbound lanes of the Thruway near Exit 40 in Weedsport. Weedsport is a Cayuga County village located about 25 miles west of Syracuse.
Area hospitals took in accident victims in a regionwide response. A total of 30 victims went by ambulance to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, the region’s top-level trauma center designated to handle the most serious injuries, according to Darryl Geddes, a hospital spokesman.
