Officials have announced that Chrysler is conducting a recall of more than 132,000 of its Jeep Cherokee vehicles manufactured between 2014 and 2016. The reason behind the recall is a potential fire hazard.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued an advisory urging owners of the affected Chrysler vehicles to park them outside. This proactive approach aims to ensure the safety of both the vehicle owners and their surroundings.
The NHTSA reported that an electrical short in the power liftgate module has the potential to ignite a vehicle fire, regardless of whether the ignition is on or off. The short circuit is a possibility when water seeps into the liftgate control computer.
Cherokees were previously subject to a recall in 2015, the NHTSA clarified that even vehicles that underwent repairs during the prior recall will need to be repaired.
The process of notifying owners through official letters is scheduled to begin June 30.
