Ford Expands Recall for Engine Fire Risk in Multiple Models

Ford Motor Company has recently announced an expansion and replacement of a recall for various Ford and Lincoln vehicles, citing a potential risk of engine fires. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported that a total of 125,322 vehicles are affected by this recall.

The models included are specific 2020-2023 Escape, 2022-2023 Maverick, and 2021-2023 Corsair vehicles equipped with 2.5L HEV or PHEV engines. Ford has identified that in the event of engine failure, the engine compartment may accumulate engine oil and fuel vapor near ignition sources, such as hot engine or exhaust components, posing a potential fire hazard.

Owners of the affected vehicles are strongly advised to park their vehicles and turn off the engine promptly if they hear unexpected engine noises, experience a reduction in vehicle power, or observe smoke. These precautions are crucial in mitigating the risk of engine fires.

The NHTSA states that this recall expands upon and replaces a previous recall with the identification number 22V-484. Owners who have previously had their vehicles repaired under the original recall (22V-484) will need to undergo a new remedy procedure.

Ford is actively working on developing an appropriate remedy for the affected vehicles. The company aims to rectify the engine fire risk promptly. Letters notifying owners of the safety risk are scheduled to be mailed out on June 12, 2023.
