Fraud. You can’t see it. You can’t feel it. But if you are a vice president of claims, you know it’s out there.
Insurers are finding it hard to bring in new dollars in a tight market, and are now working harder to keep some of those premiums from going out the door to fraudulent claims.

Mark Russell, who holds that title for Grange Insurance, knows that fraud is being committed against his company every day. Some of it is soft fraud – padding a policy’s deductible amount – some of it is hard fraud – staged accidents or arson. Getting a handle on it has not been easy for the company’s Special Investigations Unit.

“We have a hybrid situation at Grange,” said Russell. “We have an SIU that has seven investigators in house for Ohio and we outsource it to Investigative Resources Global for the other five states where we do business.”
