The New York Insurance Department's New York City operations, just blocks from the World Trade Center, which was destroyed in a terrorist attack this week, will operate out of its Albany, N.Y. headquarters until further notice, according to Joanna Rose, a department representative.

As far as the department is aware, according to Ms. Rose, there are no casualties or injuries at the department.

The office is without electricity and closed because the area below 14th Street in New York City has been closed by city authorities.

However, a hotline number, 800-339-1759, is in operation to answer consumer questions. Ms. Rose said that volume has been light, but expects it to increase in the coming weeks. Ms. Rose said the department would consider adding additional numbers if needed.
