Claims professionals know that the industry is faced with a mandate to automate the claims process. Profitability in the property and casualty sector is down, current systems often cannot talk to each other, and too many steps in the claims process are performed by human beings, relying on little more than memory.

In the property and casualty sector, up to 99 percent of the 116 million new claims filed each year are still processed primarily through human initiative and paper-based systems.

In addition to being labor intensive and costly, the current claims review process misses many opportunities to reduce costs and improve customer service through the early identification of claims that need case management or special handling.
