Nine people were hurt when a van went through a red light and struck a CTA bus Tuesday afternoon on the Near West Side. The crash happened at South Ashland Avenue and West Madison Street at 1:45 p.m when a No. 20 Madison bus was heading west through the intersection and was struck by a van going through a red light, according to CTA spokesperson Catherine Hosinki. The driver of the van attempted to stop, but there may have been a mechanical issue with the vans brakes, Hosinki said.
