The Florida insurance department has arrested three individuals on charges of allegedly stealing over $500,000 from the state's residual property market by falsely altering a personal injury claim.

A fourth individual was arrested for allegedly attempting to extort a $250,000 payment from another company to prevent word of the incident from being leaked to reporters.

After a six-month investigation, department fraud investigators arrested two former members of the Sewell, Todd, Broxton claims adjusting firm—former litigation supervisor Linda Reynolds and Merrie Jo Reynolds, the firm's former clerical supervisor. Also arrested was Deborah Cochran, a registered nurse.

Sewell, Todd, Broxton is one of several claims adjusting firms hired by the Florida Residential Joint Underwriting Association to handle routine claims in addition to catastrophe claims.
