Insurance fraud investigators anxious to avoid charges of bad faith when handling claims should memorize the following jingle: “How does it play as Exhibit A?" one leading attorney here warned.

Janet Colaneri, with the Arlington, Texas law firm of Colaneri Massad Haman & Reilly, advised claims handlers to remember her bit of verse “anytime you do anything in writing.”

Ms. Colaneri and other attorneys delivered their advice during a workshop on “Bad Faith: What is it? Is it catching? How do I avoid it?” held during the annual seminar of the International Association of Special Investigative Units. The attorneys at the workshop offered many examples of incriminating bloopers by adjusters.
