Strong building codes save lives and reduce property losses, according to the National Association of Independent Insurers (NAII). The association is supporting efforts by the Insurance Building Code Coalition (IBCC) to urge the adoption of statewide minimum building codes.

"NAII is encouraging insurance companies to become more involved in the building code development process," said Donald Griffin, director, business and personal lines. "Insurers see the personal and financial impact that the lack of strong building codes and their inadequate enforcement have on a daily basis. The impact becomes even more severe following a natural disaster. Insurers bring this unique viewpoint to the process as the industry works to save lives, reduce injuries, reduce property damage and hold the line on insurance costs."
