threatening roads or property to the National Weather Service
Greenville-Spartanburg by calling toll free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1,
by posting on our Facebook page, or via Twitter using hashtag
NWSGSP. Your message should describe the specific location where
impacts occurred and the depth of flooding observed.
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM EDT EARLY THIS MORNING...
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...A portion of western North Carolina, including the
following counties, Graham and Swain.
* WHEN...Until 400 AM EDT.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 1256 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges
indicated heavy rainfall due to persistent and nearly
stationary showers and thunderstorms. Minor flooding is
ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area due
to the 1 and 2 inches of rain that has fallen over the past
hour.
- Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over
the area through 3 am EDT. This additional rain will worsen
minor flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Robbinsville, Town Of Santeetlah, areas around Lake
Santeetlah, Fontana Village, areas around Fontana Lake, Smoky
Mountains-Fontana Area, Cheoah, Stecoah, Nantahala, Wesser
and Almond. Flooding is most likely along Long Creek,
Snowbird Creek, and Tulula Creek.
