* WHAT...Northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. * WHERE...Kahoolawe, most of Lanai, the Central Valley and South Haleakala on Maui, and portions of the Big Island including the Kohala and Kau Districts and the Humuula Saddle area. * WHEN...Until 6 AM HST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Winds this strong can tear off shingles, knock down tree branches, blow away tents and awnings and make it difficult to steer, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles.
