Priya Donti, an MIT professor and co-founder of Climate Change AI, shared insights on how AI can be a crucial tool in combating climate change, at the ClimateTech conference. She highlighted AI’s capabilities in data analysis, forecasting, systems efficiency improvement, and aiding next-gen tech invention for climate solutions.
However, she pointed out three core challenges: AI’s use in counterproductive sectors like oil and gas, the increasing carbon footprint of AI operations, and the accuracy concern in critical infrastructure applications.
Despite hurdles, Donti remains optimistic about AI’s role in climate crisis solutions, noting the rise in venture capital investment in climate tech and advocating for more public education and capacity-building in this domain.
