Gov. Greg Abbott signed a disaster declaration after Monday’s severe flooding, including Dallas County, as the region recovers from a storm event that flooded roads, submerged cars, delayed flights, left at least one person dead and more than 100 homes damaged.
The declaration includes 23 counties across Texas. ‘Additional counties may be added as the storm system makes its way through the state,’ Abbott.
He says the Dallas-Fort Worth area was the most impacted by rain and flooding this week.
Gov. Abbott also says locals need to first make a claim with their insurance company. In addition, he says to report any damage to the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
Mayor Eric Johnson also spoke during the news conference and said the city will do everything they can to help those impacted by the storm.
