West Virginia tops the list for animal-related insurance claims, with drivers more likely to file a claim in the state than anywhere else, according to a recent AAA report.
The surge in claims corresponds with the fall, the mating season for deer, heightening the chance of vehicular collisions.
AAA highlighted that the average claim for such incidents surpassed $4,500 last year, with some accidents turning fatal.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety logged nearly 1,900 fatal animal-related crashes between 2012 and 2021, with 18 fatalities occurring in West Virginia.
To mitigate risks, AAA advises heightened vigilance during dawn and dusk, utilizing high beams, slowing down upon spotting wildlife, and adhering to other safety measures while on the road.
