A Rome woman faces insurance fraud and forgery charges, after the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire says she attempted to get more than $1.5 million in fake payments.
The commissioner of the Department John F. King made the announcement Thursday morning.
He says between October 2022 and January 2023, Denna Rochelle Conaway, 54, initiated three separate accident claims with the Guardian Insurance Company. In each instance, they say she submitted medical invoices for hospital stays outside of Georgia.
"Ms. Conaway’s first fraudulent invoice claimed she was hospitalized in Yuma, Arizona, and she received just over $10,000 in payment from the insurance company,’ said Commissioner King. ‘After this apparent success, Ms. Conaway went on to file claims using forged invoices for hospitalizations in Miami, Florida and Los Angeles, California. However, the hospitals had no record of Ms. Conaway being a patient at their facilities, and her claims were rightly denied."
