Entering the surf is not advised. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
* WHAT...A developing southward flowing longshore current, and a Moderate risk of dangerous rip currents are expected. * WHERE...The beaches of Volusia, Brevard, Indian River, Saint Lucie and Martin counties. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Freshening north to northwest winds behind a passing cold front will produce a strong southward flowing longshore current today, which can push swimmers into deeper water unexpectedly, making them more susceptible to dangerous rip currents.
