If on or near Lakes Russell or Thurmond, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
At 705 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 12 miles south of Elberton, or 6 miles southwest of Nancy Hart State Park, moving east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Calhoun Falls, Nancy Hart State Park, Bobby Brown State Park, Lake Strom Thurmond, Lake Russell, Broad River Campground, Fortsonia, and Rice Town.
