Montana’s high court ruled that a Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. unit that covered an injured employee’s carpal tunnel syndrome when it was first diagnosed is also liable for coverage when the injury later worsened, even though it was no longer the company’s insurer. The ruling by the Montana Supreme Court, which was released Tuesday, overturns an earlier ruling in favor of the insurer by a workers compensation court....

A Loudoun County, Virginia, woman who ran a sleep study clinic has been convicted on charges of running a health care fraud that siphoned $83 million from Medicare and private insurers. Young Yi, 44, of Sterling, who formed the 1st Class Sleep Diagnostic Center and 1st Class Medical, was convicted Monday of one count of conspiracy to commit health care and wire fraud....

A federal judge in New Jersey has ruled that Amazon.com can’t be held liable as the seller of a laptop battery that allegedly caught fire and destroyed the customer’s home. In a suit brought by Allstate to recoup its losses from the fire, the judge found that Amazon can’t be considered a seller of the product under the New Jersey Product Liability Act because the company’s involvement in the sale was minimal....

Already at the mercy of mounting legal bills, embattled former film producer Harvey Weinstein also has to contend with his insurers — which have not only denied him coverage for legal costs, but have also launched lawsuits of their own against him. Weinstein, 66, has pleaded not guilty to assaulting three women; he is out on US$1 million bail. The Associated Press reported that a new count was recently added to his charges....
