Texas Insurance Adjuster Exam Prep

Texas Exam Prep

Texas offers two paths: the traditional Pearson VUE state exam or—far more common—the 40-hour pre-licensing course whose final exam exempts you from the state test. Use this page to prepare for whichever path you choose.

For licensing requirements, fees, and reciprocity, see the Texas licensing guide.

Exam ProviderPearson VUE (for state exam path); or TDI-approved pre-licensing provider (exam exemption path)
Questions150 multiple-choice (state exam); course final exam if using 40-hour exemption
Time LimitTypically 2.5–3 hours for state exam; course finals vary by provider
Passing Score70% (state exam)

Study Outline

 1. Decide whether you will take the Pearson VUE state exam or complete a 40-hour TDI-approved pre-licensing course (most adjusters choose the course—its final exam exempts you from the state exam).
 2. Study Texas Insurance Code basics, policy provisions, ethics, and claims-handling workflow.
 3. If testing at Pearson VUE, schedule early and review the candidate handbook for ID and reschedule rules.
 4. Complete Sircon/TDI application steps and fingerprinting after passing your chosen pathway.

Sample Questions

Sample question (conceptual): Which best describes the duty of good faith in claims handling?

Discussion: Expect questions on fair investigation, timely communication, and ethical handling—review TDI ethics materials and general adjuster practice standards.

Sample question: What is the purpose of a proof of loss?

Discussion: Be ready to connect forms, deadlines, and policy language to statutory requirements.

Pass Tips

 • If you use the 40-hour course, treat the provider final as seriously as the state exam— it is your practical gate to licensure.
 • Read every question twice on multiple-choice exams; many misses come from misreading "except" or "best" questions.
 • Get sleep the night before; Texas exams are long and endurance matters.
 • Verify your testing-center profile name matches ID exactly.
