Fire companies responded to the University at Buffalos North Campus Thursday evening after a fire began in a dormitory building. Smoke could be seen coming from the Spaulding Hall dorms and students were evacuated. Amherst Fire Department officials say the fire started from "careless use of smoking materials" in a room on the fourth floor. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to that room and quickly extinguish the flames.
