Iowa Father And Son Conspired On Fraudulent Property Damage Claim

A father and son have been sentenced to two years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to a Fraudulent Practices in the 3rd Degree, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. Richard Hartman, 69, of Manchester, and Tobin Hartman, 44, of Ryan, pled guilty in the Delaware County District Court. Both were charged in connection with an insurance fraud investigation by the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau and the Delaware County Attorney’s Office. The investigation found Richard filed a fraudulent insurance claim with Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company. The claim was for damages he claimed were caused when he hit his son, Tobin’s cattle barn with a skid loader.
