SIU Busts Claimant Who Requests $55K More Than Original Scam Paid Out

A Grand Junction man accused of filing two insurance claims for the theft of the same road bicycle, and another for a home burglary that his girlfriend at the time said never occurred is facing fraud charges. In December 2012, 40-year-old Paul R. Sanders allegedly filed an insurance claim for a Trek Madone 5.2 road bicycle and Easton mountain wheel set that he said were stolen from his vehicle while it was parked, according to an arrest affidavit written by the Colorado Attorney General’s Office investigator who handled the case. State Farm paid out $9,958 about a month later. Then, in August 2015, Sanders filed a claim for the same allegedly stolen equipment, the investigator wrote.
