A Michigan bill that would place onerous restrictions on insurers ability to prescribe auto repair shops and use aftermarket parts would increase claims costs, ultimately hurting consumers, according to the Alliance of American Insurers.
HB 4127 would prohibit insurers from recommending or suggesting an insured use a particular automobile repair shop or suggesting use of certain replacement parts.

"The insurance industry has more expertise in evaluating repair shops and glass repairers than any other profession," wrote Bill Schroeder, Alliance Midwest Regional vice president in testimony submitted to the House Insurance Committee March 26. "HB 4127 would prevent insurers from sharing this knowledge with insureds.
