The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the dismissal of a lawsuit that said that Ford Motor (F) misled investors about the safety of tires on Ford Explorer sport-utility vehicles.
The class-action lawsuit was filed in 2000 by the Public School Teachers Pension and Retirement Fund of Chicago, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Ohio Tuition Trust Authority, among others.
It said Ford omitted information about the danger of Ford Explorer models equipped with Bridgestone/Firestone ATX tires when making statements about the Explorer.
The SUV came under intense scrutiny from federal regulators investigating what caused Firestone tires to fail, mostly on Explorer models. Firestone eventually was forced to recall millions of tires.
