A study by the Insurance Research Council has found that the claiming practices by claimants in New York City is vastly different than those individuals in the rest of New York state. Despite the fact that claimants in New York City do not sustain more serious injuries than those in outlying areas, they do get more medical treatment for their injuries and report much more economic losses. The report showed that treatments such as MRIs, the use of chiropractors, and physical therapists in New York City is almost double the amount used by claimants in the rest of the state.
