Comp Study Men Have Worse Injuries

Monday, June 12th, 2000 Workers' Compensation

A new study that found relationships between sex, salary and age to workers’ claims of job injuries has concluded that men are much more likely to be seriously hurt in the workplace than women. That last conclusion, in a report by the National Council on Compensation Insurance of Boca Raton, Fla., puts some workplace experts in conflict as to whether it’s a difference in sexes or occupations that is to blame. Other key points in the study, "Gender in Workers Compensation Claims," included data indicating: • The oldest females and youngest males are most at risk of injury. • The higher the pay is for women, the lower their risk of injury. • Females file more workers’ comp claims for mental stress, carpal tunnel and workplace assault than men.
