Davis Signs California Comp Reforms

Thursday, October 2nd, 2003 Subrogation Workers' Compensation

California Gov. Gray Davis signed on Tuesday into law a package of workers compensation reform measures. The six bills, including S.B. 228 and A.B. 227, are together expected to cut about $4 billion in costs annually from the state’s workers comp system, according to some analysts. The measures will, among other changes, create an outpatient surgery facility fee schedule; require greater use of generic drugs and create a pharmaceutical fee schedule; and cap at 24 the number of chiropractor and physical therapy visits in workers comp cases, unless otherwise authorized by an insurer. Gov. Davis, who is fighting an effort to recall him, signed the legislation in Los Angeles.
