Detroit Firefighters Hampered By Broken Equipment

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014 Property

Their job is tough enough, but broken equipment made a Monday night fire on Detroit’s east side even worse for firefighters. A vacant house on Newport Street forced firefighters to use defensive tactics after equipment failures like the fire hydrants not working. First responders had to go to three nearby hydrants before they found one that worked. Then a ladder truck broke and a second one has to be called to the scene. It was a tough and frustrating night for the department. "They are planning on getting new rigs," said firefighter John Slavik.
