Fire crews battled a monster five-alarm fire that broke out Saturday evening at an apartment complex under construction in Gilbert. Nearby homes and businesses were evacuated, and police closed Warner Road between Gilbert and Lindsay roads for the firefight. People gathered on street corners to watch as more than 100 firefighters worked to tame the towering inferno, made even more difficult by gusty winds. Residents reported burning embers falling onto properties miles from the fire.
