Fire Rips Through Sarris Candies
Monday, February 6th, 2012 PropertyA very smoky fire ripped through the Sarris Candies factory early Friday morning, giving firefighters a tough time as they tried not to slip and fall while navigating the local landmark building. "The amount of chocolate that had melted and was on the floor -- it was hard to move around in there. We had guys covered in chocolate," Canonsburg Fire Chief Tom Lawrence said. "Hazmat was called in to help scrub it off." He added that firefighters had to maneuver around many racks of candy and bins. The two-alarm fire on Adams Avenue was reported shortly before 7 a.m.
