After the destructive Gap Fire, Santa Barbara County residents are now being urged to prepare for the floods that could descend with the winter rainy season. The U.S. Forest Service estimates that as much as 300,000 cubic yards of dirt, muddy debris and trash from the burn areas could flow down the Santa Ynez Mountain slopes denuded by the fire. The Service points out that an average commercial dump truck holds about 10 cubic yards per load.
