Friday, March 9th, 2018 Property

As flood waters in Berrien County recede, the estimate on damaged property continues to rise, the Board of Commissioners heard Thursday. Tony Meyaard, director of the county’s damage assessment team, reported that estimated damage costs for public and private property stand at $8.3 million. Of that, $5 million comes from private property. That’s up from the $7.5 million figure released last week by the team that continues to calculate damage from the devastating floods from February. Meyaard said that 345 properties were affected, 93 suffered major damage, and six were destroyed.
