Terrence Williams, a former member of the Sacramento Kings, has been handed a 10-year prison sentence by a federal judge in Manhattan for orchestrating an elaborate plot to embezzle over $5 million from the NBA’s health care program. The sentencing follows Williams’ guilty plea on charges of conspiracy to commit health care and wire fraud, along with aggravated identity theft.

Prosecutors revealed that Williams masterminded a comprehensive scheme that systematically drained millions from the NBA Players’ Health and Welfare Benefit Plan. Court records indicated that Williams collaborated with accomplices to fabricate and submit fraudulent claims, ultimately pocketing kickback payments exceeding $300,000.

Williams and his associates systematically filed deceptive claims for purported dental and chiropractic services under the health care plan, designed to reimburse active and former players for medical expenditures not covered by conventional insurance.

A former assistant coach of the Utah Jazz, along with 17 other ex-NBA players, were implicated in this far-reaching conspiracy. The collaboration encompassed a network involving a California-based dentist, as well as medical practitioners from both California and Washington.
