Authorities said a Massachusetts woman is lucky to be alive after her home exploded and burst into flames. Police said 52-year-old Laurie Beliveau escaped her Taunton home unscathed late Sunday afternoon. The blaze destroyed the single-family home after firefighters arrived. The flames have since been extinguished. A spokesman for Columbia Gas of Massachusetts says that a gas leak or a similar malfunction is possible. The Boston Globe reported that State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan confirmed that gas was involved.
