General Mills Gold Medal Flour Recalled Over Salmonella Concerns

Monday, May 1st, 2023 Source: Claims Pages Staff

On Friday, General Mills announced a voluntary recall of Gold Medal flour due to the possible presence of salmonella.

The recall includes 2, 5, and 10-pound bags of both bleached and unbleached all-purpose flour with "better if used by" dates of March 27 and 28, 2024.

The recall was initiated after salmonella infantis was detected during testing of a five-pound bag of flour. It is important to note that other Gold Medal flour products are not impacted by this recall. General Mills has advised consumers to dispose of any flour that falls under the recall guidelines.

If you have had to discard flour covered by the recall, you may contact General Mills Consumer Relations at 1-800-230-8103. Salmonella infantis infection can cause several symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pains, and it can last from four to seven days.

In late March, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) launched an investigation that linked flour to a multi-state salmonella outbreak, which sickened around a dozen people and hospitalized three.
