GM Recalling 40K Silverado Pickup Trucks Over Brake Fluid Fire Risk

General Motors Co. is recalling certain Chevrolet Silverado medium-duty trucks with model years 2019 or later due to a potential brake fluid leak that could lead to a fire.

The recall could affect over 40,000 trucks, including 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD models produced between 2019 and 2023, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The issue is related to a problem with the brake pressure sensors that could allow fluid to leak into the brake pressure switch, potentially causing an electrical short-circuit and a subsequent fire.

GM recommends that owners with affected models park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until the recall repair is completed.

GM has not received any reports of injuries, accidents or fatalities related to the recall. The NHTSA was notified of the recall earlier this month. For more information on the recall, owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

In an unrelated statement, GM has announced its goal of selling only electric passenger vehicles by 2035.

The automaker and its competitors are investing heavily in developing and producing new electric vehicles while also continuing to make gasoline-engine cars, trucks, and SUVs.
