Flames ripped through Detroit’s Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy Tuesday morning, charring the roof and damaging upper floors. The blaze at the 104-year old building on Fenkell Street , which houses classrooms for elementary and middle school students, started about 4 a.m. District emergency financial manager Robert Bobb said no one was inside the building at the time of the fire, but "devastating" damage was done. A smaller building -- called "Small Paul" -- containing classrooms for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students was not damaged by the blaze. Bobb said classes would resume there on Monday after an air quality test.
