More than 5,000 claims have been reported to insurance companies since last weekend’s record snowstorm in New York. Many more claims are expected to be filed as power is restored to homes and businesses. Most of the claims resulted from falling trees on homes and cars, heavy snow loads on roofs and sewer backup from failed sump pumps.
