Industrial Building Ablaze Along Lake Erie Shoreline

Firefighters are responding to major fire at the former Bethlehem Steel site. The fire was reported around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at the property off of Route 5 in Lackawanna. Our crews at the scene say they heard several explosions coming from the building. Route 5 closed between Lake Ave. and Ridge Rd. Officials are urging residents from Lackawanna to Athol Springs to shelter in place due to fire at Bethlehem Steel site. Erie County Legislator Lynn Dixon says the building belongs to a mulching company. She says this is the third fire there in the last few weeks.
