Insurance Groups Fire Back Over Critical Comp Article

Saturday, April 15th, 2000 Property Workers' Compensation

Last February, Consumer Reports magazine ran a story highly critical of the current condition of the country‘s workers‘ compensation insurance system. In the months that followed, insurance groups have rushed to the defense of the workers‘ comp system, calling the article biased and inaccurate. In their February 2000 article, "Workers‘ Comp: Falling Down on the Job," Consumer Reports cited anti-consumer legislation and reforms that have been enacted since the early 1990s to address declining financial results. A number of anecdotes were used to describe a market more concerned about profits earned and benefits saved than with workers healed.
