American courts in interpreting war exclusion provisions of insurance policies have generally followed a strict interpretation of what constitutes war, according to an analysis in FC&S Bulletins.

The issue was brought to the fore yesterday with word thatHouse Financial Services Committee Chairman Mike Oxley, R-Ohio, was drafting a letter to insurance regulators urging insurers not to exercise the acts-of-war exclusion to deny coverage relating to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
