Lightning caused a massive fuel tank to explode at a Butler County gas station Monday. The explosion left an 8-feet deep and 40-feet wide crater at Gas Depot in the 4800 block of Dixie Highway. Fairfield officials used foam to battle the blaze. Residents in the the surrounding half-mile area were evacuated as a precaution. "In my 45 year career, I've never seen anything like this," said Fairfield Fire Chief Donald Bennet. Two of the 10,000-gallon underground tanks contained gas and the other had diesel. Officials believe the diesel tank ignited.
