Ten people were forced from their east-side apartment building after an early Sunday fire sparked by a bad battery in a childrens toy. The fire at Mariner Apartments in the 2200 block of Harbor Drive started around 8:45 a.m., according to Indianapolis Fire Department. Officials said a woman who lives in the two-story building saw smoke coming from the storage and furnace room and warned the other residents. Investigators believe that a lithium battery in the unidentified toy that was being stored in the room began to overheat and ignited other combustible items being stored nearby.
