Auto insurance sales increased 2 percent in the first half of the year, the Mexican Association Of Insurance Institutions (AMIS, as a Spanish acronym) said. The rate of auto theft also increase 4.41 percent from the year-ago period to 119 vehicles per day at the national level, AMIS said. During the period, 11,524 registered car owners in Mexico City reported the theft of their vehicle, of whom 6,007 eventually recovered their stolen autos.
